Famous Dams

Famous dams around the world all have their own distinct and attractive features, along with their own specific historical significance.

Some dams were built to serve much needed functions; others were not made out of necessity but rather to fulfil a beneficial agenda or business plan. Famous dams in America are not much different than famous dams in India; world famous dams have their reputations because of their size, their environmental impact, and the amazement of the general population across the earth.

The Hoover Dam, located at the border of Arizona and Nevada, is the world’s largest in several categories. This dam was the largest concrete structure on the planet, the largest dam, the largest producer and generator of hydroelectric power, and maybe even the largest man-made spectacle in North America. However, the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington on the Columbia River passed the Hoover Dam in all of those factual categories after its completion in 1945. A dam’s purpose varies, and depending on the region built, could serve a multitude of beneficial tasks. Dams can offer entire cities with power by means of hydroelectric generation. The power of water is one of the most under looked possibilities for renewable and clean energy, mostly because all areas on the earth are not fit for the creation of a gigantic dam such as the Hoover or Coulee. However, not all of the effects of a dam or helpful for example, the Hoover Dam in the United States has caused major environmental damage that is nearly irreversible. Estuaries near the Colorado River Delta have disappeared, flooding has declined in the same region, killing or nearly eliminating several species that were used to and thrived off of the Delta flood lands. Native fish and species of the Colorado River area have declined due to the lack of water near the mouth of the once flowing body of water.

The Hoover Dam

World famous dams provide people and the environment with many positive things; ultimately, the success of a dam has to be measured in terms of positives versus negatives and pros versus cons. A term that attracts one to such a structure may be a simple phrase like famous dam. In India, the Bhakra Nangal Dam is just that, one of the world famous dams that foreigners and locals travel to visit yearly, just to marvel at the size and capabilities that the structure entails. Famous dams around the world attract the masses, though the Bhakra Nangal Dam in India is one that nearly tops them all. The structure holds the title of the highest gravity dam on the planet, and it serves several beneficial purposes for those near its location. The dam prevents floods for the areas near its location, provides a valuable irrigation system for farmers and growers nearby; nearby includes about 10 million acres of farmland. Bhakra Nangal Dam also provides the multiple states with an electricity source due to its huge hydroelectric generators. Several tourists visit the structure because of its massive role and awe-striking size as India’s largest dam, too.

Get A Closer Look At The Cost Of Tummy Tucks

You probably think that there is just once cost of getting a tummy tuck, and that is how much you need to pay for the surgery. But what about after the surgery? Recovering from a tummy tuck will cost you days or weeks of bed rest and suffering from the pain as well as moving around carefully to ensure you don’t accidentally cause rips in the stitches or bleeding from the inside. Get a closer look at the cost of tummy tucks so you will know what you are facing with them.

Tummy Tuck Expenses

Tummy tucks are rarely covered by insurance, and the amount you should expect to pay for one tummy tuck operation has a rather wide margin, for mini tummy tucks can cost as low as $4,000 while full tucks sometimes go as high as $15,000. The total amount you are paying is often more than what the hospital or clinic charges you for, because while you are recovering from the tummy tuck, you will naturally need to spend on bandages to protect your recently operated waist and take medicines to fight off the threat of infection, ease pain and swelling. And since it’s rare to have a tummy tuck without scars, you may need to buy special scar revision creams to massage on the scar and make it look less noticeable over time. However, this can take a while, sometimes years, to take effect and these special creams can get pretty expensive.

If you became a victim of a cheap tummy tuck that gave you less than satisfactory or horrendous results, you may want to turn to a properly trained and qualified surgeon to fix the damage, and which you will have to naturally pay for. A rather expensive tummy tuck under an experienced doctor is far better than a cheap one from a surgeon who doesn’t have the right qualifications and experience, for you might just end up spending more money fixing a botched job.

Tummy Tuck Ordeal

Aside from having to carefully set aside money for a tummy tuck, you should also know about what you will go through. Pre-surgery, the doctor should be able to answer all your questions and concerns, especially on what you’re facing while recovering and what to do about it. Right after a tummy tuck, you will still feel groggy from the anesthesia and feel little to no pain, so you will need to have someone else present to get you home safely. Bed rest is absolutely necessary, and in the early days you can get horrified at how your waist will look, especially for a full tummy tuck before and after that can look so different.

The next few weeks will require careful observation, for exerting yourself too much can lead to torn stitches, severe bleeding, and infected scars. Even sitting up from a prone position can get painful, so make sure you follow your doctor’s advice on the dosage of painkillers to take. It is also important to watch out for symptoms like itching in the operated area, changes of color and texture on the skin, or sudden severe pain, swelling and/or bleeding, for this can signal infection or side effects to the medicines and will need medical attention at once.

My Tips For Permanent Body Hair Removal

I have fair skin but really dark body hair, and although they are not very long nor curly, they are rather thick, and I do get conscious when people comment on how hairy my arms and legs are. At one point I even tried going so far as to shave my arms, but the rough stubble that I could feel just a few hours after shaving was very uncomfortable, and whenever I brushed up against people, they would get startled at how my arms could feel so prickly while looking so smooth. This has led me to the search for permanent body hair removal, and hopefully what I discovered can be helpful to you too.

Laser hair removal

The next step up from temporary methods like waxing your legs or using a pubic hair removal cream is to remove the hair strands using laser. This sounds scary, but laser hair removal is actually perfectly safe when used correctly, and you probably have heard of brands like Tria releasing their own laser hair removal machines for personal use.

There are many reports stating that laser hair removal can give permanent hair loss, but when I looked up more information on the method, it seems that the United States Food and Drug Administration approves it only for permanent hair reduction. This means that going for laser hair removal regularly won’t completely remove your unwanted hair but rather reduce their look. This method works well for me since it made my body hair look so much better, but if you’re looking for total hair loss, then you should go for electrolysis.

Electrolysis hair removal

This is hands down the number one permanent hair removal method available. After two or more sessions, you can be rid of every strand of unwanted hair on any part of your body. Electrolysis hair removal uses tiny currents of electricity to minutely damage the hair follicles, but it’s delicate enough even for removing hair from the face. This means that if you’re not satisfied with the results of creams like Veet and Oil of Olay facial hair removal, then electrolysis is the way to go.

But this effective method doesn’t come cheap, and you should expect to pay at least two thousand dollars for a full body treatment. The process of electrolysis is time-consuming, for each hair strand will need to be subjected individually to the electric charges. Most people will come up perfectly hairless in the areas they want after several months and at least three sessions of electrolysis.

If you want to try laser or electrolysis hair removal but want to avoid side effects like skin redness and itching, then the best move is to visit a hair removal expert who will know just how to handle your skin. Laser hair removal is said to work best if you have dark hair and light skin like I do and is a good choice if you are not really looking to remove hair for good, while electrolysis gives permanent results and works well on any skin and hair type.

Why The Electrolysis Hair Removal System Is The Best For Me

When it comes to body hair, I was the unlucky one in the family, for my mother and younger sister both had thin, sparse body hair that didn’t need to be removed at all. Even my older brother has less noticeable body hair! I tried to remedy the problem by shaving my body hair, even the ones on my forearms, but the resulting stubble was far too rough and uncomfortable for me and others who touched my skin. I switched to waxing next, but despite how hairy my skin was, it was quite sensitive, and I would suffer from great pain and redness after a waxing treatment. Desperate, I researched on the best hair removal method that would give permanent results. There was only one, and it was known as electrolysis hair removal.

At the start I confused electrolysis with laser hair removal, another special method which uses laser therapy rather than electricity. But when I looked up topics on electrolysis vs laser hair removal, it seemed to me that electrolysis was the far better choice. Because it is the only one known for leading to permanent hair loss, I was pretty sure that electrolysis would be a very special method. It turns out that your hair strands are subjected to electric currents, which travel all the way down to the root of the hair. When the hair follicles are thoroughly damaged, the roots will close up and hair will no longer come out. That sounded worth trying to me, so I consulted a hair removal specialist, who inspected my body hair and said that I might need four to six individual sessions of electrolysis to get hairless skin once and for all. The price was rather steep, but after reflecting that after the sessions are completed I will no longer have to spend time and money on hair removal, it seemed practical to me.

After several months and six sessions of electrolysis, I can finally dare to bare my perfectly smooth, hair-free legs and arms. And I’m not the only one who came to love electrolysis, for there are plenty of other women praising how the method works and how it was the only one that gave them permanent results. As compared to a Tria hair removal laser review, electrolysis is often described as expensive, but if you’re like me and won’t mind spending a little more to achieve the skin of your dreams, then electrolysis is the best hair removal method out there.

The Benefits Of Taking Vitamins E And C

Everyone aims for a healthy mind and body but this would require a lot of efforts and discipline. First and foremost, you should be firm on your goals of becoming fit and healthy. One way of getting it is to always make sure that the foods that you are going to eat must have plenty of essential nutrients. With that, you will be assured of having protection against any forms of infections and diseases.

Vitamins and minerals are very important factors needed by the human body. They are the reason why we have all the protection against bacteria or viruses. Vitamins are grouped into two as water-soluble and fat-soluble nutrients. The water soluble vitamins are B complex and C. They can be easily dissolved in water and they must not be exposed to light, air, and cooking as they may be destroyed by it. In addition, water-soluble vitamins can easily be flushed out from the system.

Fat-soluble vitamins include A, D, E, and K and unlike the water-soluble vitamins, they are not lost easily in cooking. These nutrients are stored in the fats and because of that, megadoses of it must be avoided because the amounts in excess may be stored directly in the liver and it may lead to toxicity.

In taking sufficient amounts of vitamins C and E, there are indeed a lot of benefits that we can get from them. These nutrients have one thing in common and that is having an antioxidant activity. With that, we can see vitamins C and E being incorporated in products for the skin and hair. Like for example vitamin E lotion for acne. It is believed of having the ability of nourishing the skin by making it healthier and can also help in preventing the occurrence of acne. When it comes to healing damaged tissues, it is recommended to use vitamin E for scars. Vitamin C on the other hand is also good for the skin. In fact, it has also an antibacterial property to help fight acne. Thus, it can also help in rendering natural glow into the skin. Like vitamin E, it also has the ability of repairing damaged tissues.

Vitamins E and C have been found to be helpful in preventing or treating the conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, breast cancer, bladder cancer, hair loss, atherosclerosis, angina, anemia, asthma, cataract, menstrual cramps, kwashiorkor, hepatitis C, oral mucositis, and osteoarthritis. In addition, it can also help prevent the occurrence of prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and uveitis. Because of their antioxidant activity, they are also responsible for boosting the immune system.

Are Stomach Toning Belts Better Than Tummy Tucks?

Although the cosmetic procedure of tummy tucks are becoming more and more popula’r with each passing year, a large number of people still wait for a more affordable and less agonizing alternative to going under the knife. Heres where stomach toning belts come in.

Products like the Tummy Tuck Miracle Slimming Belt and others from Slendertone and Beurer all offer to help you erase the fat deposits and loose skin around your stomach, similar to what a tummy tuck can give you but all without the pain and high expenses associated with the surgery. Stomach toning belts are said to work by electronically stimulating the muscles around the belly and waist so that you can get a workout, sometimes without even having to do real exercise routines like crunches, sit ups, and cardiovascular moves. Some belts are actually pretty expensive, especially those that boast of being made from high-tech fabrics, but these are still quite appealing to many people, especially since they dont carry the risk of giving a tummy tuck scar after 1 year the way an operation does.

Some stomach toning belts require the additional use of special gels or creams that you smear or massage all over the waist before putting the belt on, for these will supposedly give full effect to the muscle stimulation technology. But does tummy tuck belt work? Although these belts are popular and still widely available and sold today, from online retailers like eBay and Amazon to department stores and fitness shops, there is no clear explanation or solid evidence of how stimulating the muscles through electricity will cause stomach fat to melt away and tighten up loose belly skin.

For those who only need to get the impression of a smaller waist temporarily, stomach toning belts are definitely better than a real tummy tuck operation since they can work as compression garments to give a smoother, slimmer outline. But for those looking forward to erasing stomach fat and folds of loose skin, such as women who have given birth or people who have lost a large amount of weight, stomach toning belts are more of a disappointment than a real treatment. In the end, although stomach toning belts are far more accessible and cheaper, they are good if you dont want a long-term result. But if you want to get rid of accumulated stomach fat and excess skin for good, then a tummy tuck is the only option that gives sure results.

The In And Out Of Horse Feeding

Sound information in horse feeding is important for any horse owner. Even when your horse is stabled and fed by the staff in your farm, you ought to have a fundamental understanding about horse nutrition. This is because your horse and its nutrition basically depend on you; on what you feed and how you feed it.

In case your horse is lacking in energy he could seem lazy to you, but have you looked at his diet program? Are you feeding him sufficiently with the right foods that he needs? A diet regime consisting mainly of hay or grass is excellent to a horse that is not in captivity or is not into physical activities. However, when we talk about a horse that is trained and exercised regularly, a simple grass or hay would not suffice its need for a healthier body; which is why it is best to feed the horse with grass or hay along with grains that could provide the protein it needs.

What are the important things to consider when feeding horses?

It takes a lot of patience to feed a horse. Although they are not typically hard to feed, it is still best to give them the utmost care it needs.

Headaches: When Should I Worry?

Headaches are never fun to deal with. The constant pounding, sharp pains, and occasional nausea can be irritating. However, headaches aren’t as straight forward as being a simple headache. There are several different types of headaches and some can be a great cause for concern. Let’s take a closer look at the types of headaches and when you should worry.

Most Common Types of Headaches

The most common types of headaches include tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches. The tension headache spreads across the forehead and sometimes also affects the neck. There is pain and a sense of pressure. This type of headache can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a week and can happen daily or infrequently and may also include fatigue. Migraines are thought to be some of the most severe headaches. The pain can be moderate to severe and is a throbbing pain. Most people experience pain on one side, but some also experience pain on both sides. Migraines can last up to 72 hours and are recurrent though the level of pain may vary from headache to headache. Migraines can cause nausea and vomiting and may also get worse with activity, light, smell, and sound. The last of the most common headaches is the cluster headache. The cluster headache can happen all at once and causes extreme, sharp pain on one side of the head, usually around or behind the eye. These headaches usually only last up to 180 minutes and you may experience several in one day. During a cluster headache, you may experience a runny nose, a red eye, nasal congestion, a watery eye, and even agitation.

Other Types of Headaches

While tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches are the most common, there are other types. One type is the sinus headache. A sinus headache happens around the sinus area and may also include a fever. Another less common type of headache is the rebound headache. Rebound headaches are actually the cause of over-medicating ourselves. When the brain becomes over-medicated with painkillers, it can cause even more headaches. All of these types of headaches can be caused by different medical conditions. For example, if you constantly get yeast infections or thrush you may want to consider consulting with a candida doctor to find out if you have a candida overgrowth or leaky gut syndrome that is causing additional issues with your headaches.

When to Seek Medical Attention

While headaches are quite common, some can be extremely dangerous. It’s important to visit your doctor if you begin to experience headaches more often, need to take painkillers more than twice a week, it keeps getting worse, there are other symptoms that aren’t normal, the symptoms you normally experience with your headaches change, or the headaches interfere with your life. In some cases, it is necessary to visit the emergency room. If it feels like you’re having the worst headache you’ve ever had, you experience vision loss or are vomiting uncontrollably or lose consciousness, a migraine lasts more than 72 hours with no more than 4 hours of relief at a time (excluding sleeping), or you feel frightened/anxious you should visit the emergency room immediately.

Headaches are common, but some headaches could lead to stroke, vision loss, or even death. If you feel that your headache isn’t normal, don’t wait until it’s too late to get the help you need.

The Funeral Is Over – Now What?

Many people are left asking this question after the relatives have all left, the commotion has died down and you are left in the house alone.  If you did not have many conversations about preparing to die with your loved one, you might be left in a quandary about a lot of things.

If the body was cremated, one of the decisions that people are confused about, after the funeral is over, is what do to about the remains.  There seems to be two camps when it comes to this divide.  The one camp seems to think that we should follow the wishes of the person that died and the other camp seems to think that the survivors should decide, since they are the ones that are most impacted by the choice.

It is interesting to note that in one study done recently that people had a definite opinion on the question of scattering ashes.  That tells you that a lot of people had given some thought to this, even though they usually fail to communicate this to their loved ones who usually end up being the survivors.  So when the death occurs and the urn of ashes comes home, what do you do next?

Here again, there seems to be a division.  One group is content to have the ashes in the home as the last vestige of their loved one and as a spiritual connection to that person.  The other group is just as content to let the funeral home handle all of this and when the funeral is done, bury the ashes in the ground or put them into a niche.

Sometimes it is nice to have a lot of options.  Cremation gives you options.  Some people divide the ashes among the children and they all have a memorial ceremony in different parts of the country.  Others keep the ashes at home until the other partner passes away and then they decide.  Some people bury the ashes and some will scatter them in a favorite park or over the lake they vacationed on.

I do know that if I make my wishes known, it will ultimately end up being decided by the family that survives me.  You might think that the control you exercise extends into the afterlife, but I would beg to differ with you.  Plan ahead anyway.  It will make decisions for the survivors easier to make when you are gone.

How can Cereals and Vegetables fight Colon Cancer?

One of the most famous people in the world of colon health and disease was a distinguished doctor called Dennis Burkitt. Now his interest in analysing stools isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But thank goodness he took the trouble to do this, both in the UK and in many parts of Africa. For it was through looking at the consistency and weight of stool that he came up with his theory on how eating plant foods in the form nature intended, that is unrefined with all their tough cell walls intact, could help prevent many diseases associated with the bowel.

Dr. Burkitt’s theory was that a fair part of these foods was left undigested by the upper intestine and passed on into the bowel. Here, he believed, this material was fermented by the millions and millions of bacteria which call the bowel their home. This fermentation process, he claimed, substantially increased the weight of the stool. This in turn had the effect of diluting any potential cancer-causing substances lurking in the bowel. Along with the dilution of these toxins came the advantage that, because the stools weighed more, the speed at which they passed out of the body increased. This gave the carcinogens still less chance to wreak havoc and set up cancerous sites on the bowel walls.

Dr. Burkitt and his colleagues documented the weight of waste matter and the length of time it took to pass through. Passage time was measured from the moment a food is eaten until its waste material was passed in the stools. They found that there were large differences between Ugandan villagers, who ate lots of whole foods, and UK inhabitants, who ate a great deal fewer. The average Ugandan villager produced 470 grams of stool a day, which took thirty-six hours to pass. The UK figures were alarmingly different. The average Briton produced just 104 grams of stool per day and took over eighty-three hours to pass them. British vegetarians fared better, with 225 grams of stool which passed through in forty-two hours.

These observations emerged in the 1970s and are largely thought still to be true today, although now some extra ideas have been thrown into the melting pot involving the complicated effects of high-carbohydrate diets on the pH of the bowel. They make the bowel more acidic, and this is thought to reduce the activity of toxins by helping to prevent their build-up.
